Elise Marcus

Elise is host of How do we shape the future of human and non-human relationships in public space? (unconference track)
Thursday 12 December 10:15-13:00 14:00-16:30

As a researcher in sustainability design, Elise Marcus is developing new tools for humans to connect with each other and their surroundings. How does anthropomorphism affect our relationship with ecology? Where do our lifestyles intersect with the needs of our ecosystem? How can we stimulate sustainable lifestyle actions and encourage broader expressions of empathy within society? How can the responsible use of technology help us get there? These are the themes she’s covering in workshops, lectures, hands-on tools and conceptual visualizations.

With these concepts she won various awards, such as the Social Design Drempel Award for her Mother Earth Network project: A design for a communication tool for enhancing communication between humans and ecology. Currently she is working within a team on developing Earhly.ai, in order to create a system in which every ecological entity will be able to represent itself within our economic and social systems. Her portfolio has been exhibited in: Eye Film Museum, Het Nieuwe Instituut and published in the latest book of Jeroen Junte: Do It Ourselves. Within her work, Elise strives to create collaborations with commercial organisations, experts, research institutes and citizens. Just as she works within her teams, she aims to intrinsically motivate people to think along and participate in creating new sustainable systems.
